i'm watching the boondocks and it's a parody of the doestevsky's the grand inquisitor in which dr. martin luther king jr. didn't actually die after being shot, he slipped into a coma and re-awoke in 2000. he is treated like a hero and then after 9/11 happens, he makes a comment that although what happened in new york was horrible, the muslim terrorists are still human and our brothers. he is publicly crucified and treated like a pariah for his statement. it makes me wonder, what would happen if all of these heroes whose lives we have used as templates for a positive world of change, what would they think of what we have done with the place. would they be social outcasts all over again? is the idea of social change and radical justice too much for us to handle in person?
